Sogd region
The Sogd region was formed in December 1936 as the Leninabad region and renamed the Sogd region on November 10, 2000.
The name Sogd is first mentioned in the holy book of the Avesta. It is believed that this word had the following meanings: "sacred," "burning," or "pure."
